For those not familiar with that memoir here's a decriptions from Gilbert's own website:
Plagued with despair after a nasty divorce, the author, in her early 30s, divides a year equally among three dissimilar countries, exploring her competing urges for earthly delights and divine transcendence.
First, pleasure: savoring Italy's buffet of delights — the world's best pizza, free-flowing wine and dashing conversation partners — Gilbert consumes la dolce vita as spiritual succor.
Then, prayer and ascetic rigor: seeking communion with the divine at a sacred ashram in India, Gilbert emulates the ways of yogis in grueling hours of meditation, struggling to still her churning mind.
Finally, a balancing act in Bali, where Gilbert tries for equipoise 'betwixt and between' realms, studies with a merry medicine man and plunges into a charged love affair.
The follow-up to that book, COMMITTED is finally here!
Now I kinda know what happened with Felipe, but I have to read it to find out the rest!
Again, from her own website:
At the end of her bestselling memoir Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert fell in love with Felipe, a Brazilian-born man of Australian citizenship who'd been living in Indonesia when they met.
Resettling in America, the couple swore eternal fidelity to each other, but also swore to never, ever, under any circumstances get legally married. (Both were survivors of previous horrific divorces. Enough said.)
But providence intervened one day in the form of the United States government, which—after unexpectedly detaining Felipe at an American border crossing—gave the couple a choice: they could either get married, or Felipe would never be allowed to enter the country again.
Having been effectively sentenced to wed, Gilbert tackled her fears of marriage by delving into this topic completely, trying with all her might to discover through historical research, interviews, and much personal reflection what this stubbornly enduring old institution actually is.
Sounds good, no? Is this book on anyone else' radar?

I've fielded several questions about this book for months before it was released this week, so I imagine it's going to have a good initial sales boost. Now, if I could just plow through all the books I have stacked around me to read so I could get to it, too!
I'd heard of the first book, but I have a tendency not to try new authors. I'm getting out of that habit though and I'm definitely going to put these books on my goodreads page. Thanks!
Yes! I am so excited to buy it! I've heard mixed reviews though :(
I liked Eat, Pray, Love. But like some of the book's critics, I agree that she did sound a bit too whiny & annoying at times. I will however, pick this book up, even if it's only out of curiousity about what happens with Felipe :)
I dont think Im a big fan of these books, but they seem so popular, so I might check out the first one

I've read a lot of reviews about it.
it sounds interesting! but i haven't read the first one, so i'd have to start fresh!
All the hooplah from her latest book makes me definitely want to put her first book on my list of must reads. Because I think I'm at that whole eat & pray stage. Hahahaha.

I want to read both books. The first is still hard to get hold of at the library though!
I loved the first one and can't WAIT to read this one.
I will however, pick this book up, even if it's only out of curiousity about what happens with Felipe :)
