A Quiet Place

I develop story inspirations and work out plot issues during the strangest times.

But maybe they're not so strange. Because when I think about it, they are also times when I am most alone with my thoughts.

1. In the shower (go figure).

2. On walks with my dog.

3. See that swinging bench down there? YEP!

It's on my back deck and in the shade of our gigantic maple tree (which drops branches of various sizes like crazy, so I'm lucky I haven't been bonked in the head).

My favorite place to swing and dream and believe.

How about you?

Everywhere, really. There is no one place for me. I wish there was. I want a hammock. Maybe that could be my one place? Yeah, I'm putting that on my Christmas list! (Too bad I wouldn't be able to use it until spring...lol)

Most of my ideas happen while I'm driving!! I have an hour commute, so that gives me plenty of time!

When I'm driving. It's kind of scary because I'm coherent enough to get where I need to be but my mind is wandering in another world. Makes for short commutes though!

Before I go to bed and when I'm driving in my car...kid-free. I have journals and post-it pads and note pads everywhere to capture the idea when it strikes me. I even have a file of book, character, scenario, title ideas. I visit the file when I'm ready to start something new.

So jealous of the swing area! That's too awesome!!! I do the same thing, taking a movie star bath, going for a walk to my mailbox, driving in the morning to work. Best times to think :)

Inspiration pretty much always strikes me when in bed, trying to fall asleep. Sometimes annoying but I really have no right to complain.

I'm a 'middle-of-the-nighter' so I got up three times in 5 minutes to write author interview questions. For some reason my thoughts are more clear when I'm trying to sleep and can't see anything that will distract me. I'd love to swing on that bench though!

You made me realize I need a fav place to dream and believe. I'll start looking today.

Firstly, about my blog post. Yes, it was real. It happened on Saturday. And was one of the most horrifying experiences of my life.

I'm sort of jealous of your swing and tree. I like to go into my grandparents backyard because they have a couch swing and it's so relaxing. But most of the time, I work stuff out when driving, or sitting in a dark room with soft music playing. I've been doing a lot of weeding for my grandparents (saving up money for my trip) and I find that weeding is an EXCELLENT time for story stuff. I've worked out so many kinks and things during my time weeding. I'm going to do a post about it next week.

Love that porch swing! Most of my ideas come on my walks. I get very involved in some of them. I'm lucky to get home some days.

The shower is definitely my number one place for new ideas/solidifying ideas. Love it!

Mine would be on the couch with no one home:)

Usually something will hit me when I'm at work, so I will try to rush somewhere to grab a piece of scratch paper, sort of hoping someone doesn't stop to ask me a question because then it's shot. Trouble is, when I find the scribbled on paper a few days later, I have no clue what I was thinking!

Definitely in the shower. That's where great ideas spring up and where I get clarity from the day's chaos.

I'm your newest follower!

The shower. Doing laundry (mostly when I am sorting through and putting it away) at night when I lay down and try to go to sleep. Hahaha. If I am lucky enough to be alone in the car. But how I would love your swing! Crazy branch falling tree and all!

I LOVE that bench and the tree, such perfect places to brainstorm ideas!

I'm not sure I have a specific spot - ideas/plot come to me in a whole array of places: at my desk, in the shower, whilst walking, on the train, in the car, making dinner, at work, etc. The list could go on forever.. :)

I should try to pinpoint which place generates the MOSt ideas.. hmm..

Good thing you haven't been hit on the head beneath that maple tree--it looks huge.

I think I should have a waterproof dry erase board in the shower at times! :)
