Evan got one of those Live Butterfly garden kits for his birthday from Nana and Papa.
So we finally ordered the caterpillars and followed the instructions to transfer them into the netted tent. Then we placed flowers and sugar water at the bottom of the tent.
The caterpillars formed chrysalis'...
...and then changed into beautiful butterflies. It was so neat to watch.

It most certainly is - lucky Evan... and, if the container breaks, you're not chasing ants all over the room!... he's adorable... give him a hug for me... come visit when you can...
What an awesome science project!!! Job well done! Turned out great... butterflies are awesome!
That's wonderful. I've done that with my kids before. I think I was amazed more than they were.
I've been wanting to get this kit for my kids. Looks so fun and what a great way to learn about the butterfly process.
My girls did this once, they really enjoyed it. Butterflies are so pretty
HOW AWESOME!!!!! Not only educational, but there are so many important life lessons we can learn from the caterpillar/butterfly transformation too! And I how great that he was able to set them free too :) Lovethis!
Great post! My daughter's kindergarden class did this prject and she absolutely loved it. I wish I could have seen the whole thing, that sort of science isn't just for kids :)

That is so awesome!! And I love that picture of the butterfly on Evan's finger. I must live in a cave, I wasn't even aware there was such a thing!
That is fantastic. What a great experience.

This is so much more my speed. My cousin bought fertilized eggs and now has chickens for her kids. Um, no thanks.
Adorable!

I've done this with the kids the last two summers. They (and I ) loved it! What a great way to experience nature up close.
Last year though when they released the butterflies in the backyard, a bird swooped down and ate one! Ahh!
What a great learning experiance for everyone. Keep those cameras handy. Great photo oppertunity. Your children will always remember this as the great butterfly summer.
