From Booklist:
"I’m sitting alone on the other side of the world talking to a sea turtle that might be my mom.” So begins Kling’s debut novel, the story of 15-year-old Sienna (Sea to her friends), who lost her mother three years earlier when her plane disappeared over the Indian Ocean. Her body was never found, and Sienna secretly believes she could still be alive. Joining her father’s psychiatric team helping child victims of the 2004 tsunami, she spends two weeks in an Indonesian refugee camp where she meets the gorgeous and enigmatic Deni, with whom she has an instant connection and a bittersweet romance. Kling blends facts about Indonesian culture and the wake of the tsunami with a lyrical story of loss and daring to love again.
Can you tell where we held our book club this month? *cough*
I am actually right in the middle of this book (SO busy, I couldn't finish it in time). But everyone agreed it was an enjoyable read in an intriguing setting.
We also wondered if it didn't receive the buzz it deserved when it debuted this year because it's a contemporary story (in the midst of more popular paranormals), set in another country.

I've heard a lot about the book. Have you seen the book trailer?? Awesome.
I haven't heard a thing about this novel but it sounds wonderful!!! I'm definitely adding it to the list to read! I have three others I just purchased this weekend that I must read first!
Oh I have heard about this book, but not got it yet. May have to do some book buying. My poor TBR pile! LOL.
That sounds really good. I long to go to Sumatra to study the last of the orangutans living there. Not in the Ache region, farther South. But I'd like to spend some time in the North also. This sounds like a wonderful book. I'll have to check it out.
This is why you are such a great writer...you read and study your genre. What a fun book club!
For some reason I thought it was a story about a mermaid. Hmmm. Wonder where I got that idea from? :)
I can't wait to hear what you have to say about it at the end, Christina.
Look s like you had quite the book club meeting!! I have to say, I get more and more jealous of your awesome book club everytime you post! I need to find one in my neighborhood!
What a fun looking meeting! I haven't read this one yet, but I'm dying to--it's on my TBR list!
I am over from Lourie's place and that book looks really interesting. I like the storyline!
I'll have to do some research on this one. Not quite sold.
Glad you guys liked it!
Also, now I'm hungry. :)
One of the many things I love about writing are the endless possibilities. What a fantastic storyline.
I LOVED SEA! SO good! ♥
Sounds like a touching book. And yes, paranormals are definitely filling the scene.
