Building a Foundation

So, we had a lot of quality family time over the holidays.

And this is what I remember most of all.

My house being over run by LEGOS!

Fine by me! After all, building Legos and writing a novel are SO similar, you just can't miss the comparison (heh heh):D.

First, you need to build a solid foundation, so that your middle layers, and exterior pieces are supported properly. Then your decorative and fluff pieces can lay on top.

In your novel, you need the bare bones first--the solid framework everything else is built upon(beginning, middle, and end). Then you can pretty it up with plot layers, setting, character development, and of course, your lovely prose. :D

HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEKEND!

P.S.Today, at Maddy's blog, she's giving away one of my KEY TO MY HEART necklaces!

Perfect analogy, Christina! And my house was solid Legos from one end to the other on Christmas morning. My son LOVES them, has bins FULL. Bins that, several times a day, are upended to find that one, little, certain-shaped, certain-colored brick that he just HAS to have on top of his newest creation. Awesome!

Happy novel building!

I remember the legos days. Now, any we have left, my boys use them as hockey pucks. LOL.

Have a great weekend.

Oh legos!!! My nephews are addicted to them right now! We mailed boxes of them to their house in time for christmas!!!

Great comparison! I love when you can mix toys with writing. Just makes the day better!

Happy Friday love!

That was an impressive analogy. I am pleased Santa brought your guy the lego he requested.

I agree! And I'll take it a step further and compare to almost anything in life including "building a busines". You have to build a solid foundation and start on the right foot, otherwise it's easy to fall astray with pretty logos, marketing strategies and even merchandising/services. If your books are not in order, nothing else matters and your business won't thrive ;o) Thanks for hosting the giveway on my blog! You're going to make one lucky girl so very happy!

Love it!
And my boys love Legos too. They sit for hours upon hours building them without a break. Ahhh, quiet time until another sibling touches them. :)

Mr. J and I spent at least two hours building Lego towns with my nephew and niece on Christmas Day. Lots of fun, except when I couldn't find a piece we needed. The three of them are soooo demanding.

This is for the win just for mentioning legos! WIN!

It's also a great analogy, but I had to expose my lego love.

I found this awesome book for my 4 year old nephew for Christmas:

LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary.

Haha, love the analogy! I'll have to start playing with legos again when I write another first draft :)

How I longed to have lego as a child. Sadly it was deemed to be a boys toy and therefore I had to make do with playing with it at school - if I could get past the boys that is.

Oh you forgot one important point. Both can do serious harm. Step on Lego. Ouch! And paper cuts anyone? (she says as she nurses one from her first draft. grrr)

Good comparison. I helped my sons build enough leggo castles to know how it can all come tumbling down if you don't make the foundation right.

Great analogy. My nephew is a lego fanatic. That's a company that's really kept its relevance.

Our son was all about Legos when he was younger. Now he has a prestigious job at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hill, CA!
So the Legos were a great foundation!

Cute analogy, and wow that's some epic Lego-ing. Skills!

I have the strong urge to play with legos... I'm totally going to dig through the boxes in storage and find some. I need some novel writing practice! ;)

My house has been invaded by LEGOs for years! And ... we just got another set today (delayed Xmas present). Sigh.

We are moving into Legos now. First it was cars...for a long time actually. But he is really pushing for the legos. Great analogy!

SCBWI is only 19 days away...
