The Five Senses of Winter: SOUND
My other Five Senses of Winter posts, are here: SIGHT and TOUCH
The crunch of boots on snow:
A shovel scraping across a white layer of fluff:
And if you close your eyes and listen carefully...
...you'll notice an absence of sound. As if the snow has muted it, doused it, placed a blanket over it and sent it to the land of nod.
Unless the wind has taken hold, then you'll hear the woosh and howl!
BRRR!

These are the sounds of winter I know only too well. Can't wait for the sounds of spring. :D
Beautiful photos to accompany your apt descriptions, as ever :-)
I also love the sound of boots crunching in the snow and the sound of skates across the ice.

And these sounds are so very distinctly winter, there's no mistaking that!
Love these.
The only winter sound I don't like is the sound of snow plows in the middle of the night (though I do appreciate them clearing our roads!).
I love how you added the silence to the sound of winter.
Did you know that Bush has a fairly new song called "The Sound of Winter"? It's pretty good.
Exactly.
When my wife and I first were married, I remember walking my dog late one night while visiting the in-laws. The snow was falling fast and I remember noticing how beautiful everything was. As the dog stopped to sniff periodically I was surprised at how silent everything was--guess I had never noticed.
You make snow sound warm. Beautiful!
I love that muted sound after snow. Also the crunch of boots and the scrape of the shovel if I'm not the one pushing it.
This post makes me miss snow SO much. Beautiful!
Kelly, no I didn't!!! Off to find it!
I hate where I live.
Oh Lisa, forgot about skates!
Matt, :-( no snow?
I think I like these wintry sounds!
Love this! Anything that gives me a sense of sound. Beautiful! (Hugs)Indigo
What a wonderful snowy study of sound. Beautiful pics.
Those are such great photos! You can almost feel them.
Love these senses posts! I never think of things in this way, but it so true! Your desciptions put me in the middle of a winter's day :)
Hi!
Happy New Year!
Health, luck and love!
You almost make me wish for a huge snow storm. :)
I love this, Christina. There's nothing like a the first snow of winter.
Next to hearing the laughter of my children, the silence the snow brings is probably my favorite sound.
That is something that always fascinated me about the snow. The silence of it. And not even words can explain it. You have to have lived it. It's unreal.
